John Chrysostom & PSA - Answering Mike Winger E4
Mike Winger is an adamant defender of Penal Substitutionary Atonement. Across six lengthy videos Mike argued that PSA is the Gospel, that it was taught by the early Church Fathers, and to deny it is akin to stripping away the heart of the Gospel. In episode 4 of our series, we continue our response to Mike Winger. Here, we address Mike's claim that John Chrysostom taught Penal Substitution. We do this by examining Chrysostom's actual writings on the work of Christ. Our goal is to steelman both PSA and Winger and so to that end we will continue to provide quotes and clips from both @MikeWinger and other sources. In this episode we quote John Chrysostom, Mike Winger, Wayne Grudem & Father Panayiotis Papageorgiou @Trisagionfilms. This series of videos intends to provide Mike Winger with a respectful response & counter-argument. While Mike has asserted those who deny PSA do so by misrepresentation & an anachronistic handling of the data, it is our contention that he is the one who has done this very thing - albeit, we do not believe he has done so intentionally. Instead, we believe Mike's sincerely mistaken; the result of his imposing a bias onto the data. "Did John Chrysostom Teach Penal Substitution?" The answer is a resounding, "No!"
