Jesus Became Sin on a Tree - Todd White
Recently Todd White of Lifestyle Christianity recently gave a controversial sermon. It was so shocking that it was soon removed from his YouTube channel. In the video, White gave his interpretation of 2 Corinthians 5:17-21... specifically focusing on the portion where "Jesus became sin" for us. This Todd seemingly took to mean Jesus literally "became sin on a tree".
Calvinists and Reformed teachers and preachers were quick to jump on him for such statements as well as his explicit examples. They claimed he was unregenerate, lost, unsaved, a false teacher, a heretic, etc.
Yet, none of White's detractors seemingly take issue with other Calvinists for asserting the same thing. Men like RC Sproul taught that Jesus became sin incarnate, a mass of sin, became a literal curse, etc... and Charles Spurgeon noted how men cannot exchange their sin with another, but this is possible for God.
So why are Calvinists condemning White as an unbeliever and turning a blind eye to their own teachers who White apparently learned this from? Which group of Calvinists represent "consistent Calvinism": RC Sproul & Charles Spurgeon, or Justin Peters & John MacArthur? This video uses several comments from Justin Peters, a Calvinist Preacher, condemning Todd White as an unsaved, unregenerate false teacher. These clips are used to demonstrate the Reformed camp's response to White, while also ironically highlighting the problems with Sproul and Spurgeon. Justin's original video can be seen here
